BATAK KLUET PEOPLE

Batak Kluet people or sometimes called Kluet People is a Batak ethnic that live in Kabupaten Aceh Selatan. The land of Kluet has LawéKluet River from Gunung Leuser to Hindia Ocean. Their culture has some similarities to Batak Alas, Batak Singkil, Batak Gayo and Batak Karo. Batak Kluet people live near to Anek Jamee people (come from Minangkabau) and Aceh people. Nowadays their culture mostly influenced by Islamic culture. |

The land of Batak Kluet people covered some districts of Kabupaten Aceh Selatan, which are:
1. Kec. Kluet Utara, capital in Kota Fajar
2. Kec. Kluet Selatan, capital in Suak Bakongan
3. Kec. Kluet Timur, capital in Paya Dapur
4. Kec. Kluet Tengah, capital in Kluet
5. Kec. Kluet Barat (Pasie Raja), capital in Ladang Tuha

Batak Kluet people are related to Batak Alas, Batak Gayo, Batak Singkil and Batak Karo because they have some similarities in language, costums and cultures. Eventhough they live in Aceh Province but their cultures are closer to Batak than Aceh. Besides that, they have similar marga such as Monte in Batak Kluet that have the same ancestor to Munthe in Batak Alas, Munte in Batak Gayo, and Ginting Munthe in Batak Karo.
B. Marga
Batak Kluet people have "marga" that shows the identity of their original ancestor
or family. This familiy name is derived from father lineage
(patrilineal) that will be continued to his male descent continiously.
Female descent will follow the family name of her husband after mariage.

C. Language
Pemakai bahasa Kluet semakin hari semakin berkurang. Bahasa Kluet dipakai di wilayah timur laut Tapaktuan dan di sekitar Kutacane, Aceh. Pada tahun 2000, jumlah pemakai bahasa ini mencapai 195.000 orang. Bahasa Kluet terbagi atas 3 dialek yaitu Dialek Paya Dapur, Manggamat dan Krueng Kluet.

D. Religion
Menurut Prof. Van Vollenhoven, anthropologi, ahli bahasa, dan pakar budaya pada jaman Penjajahan Belanda, menemukan banyak kesamaan adat istiadat asli (sebelum dipengaruhi agama yg masuk belakangan), kesamaan budaya, kesamaan asal etnis, dan kesamaan dasar rumpun bahasa antara Batak Karo dan Pakpak dengan Suku Kluet, Gayo, Alas dan Singkil. Van Vollenhoven mengklasifikasikan Rumpun Adat ini sebagai Rumpun Budaya Batak.
